Movie

The first grade was supposed to go to the movie "Where The Wild Things Are" on October 23rd. The movie theater is being difficult, so we are going to go in November. All students are going great and i'm positive that everyone will be able to go. It is rated "PG" so we will send home permission slips soon.

Readers Theater

This month, our class will be doing a readers theater on the book "The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid Of Anything." Each student has a part that they need to learn. We will try to practice every morning and then in a few weeks we will be performing it to some of the other classes and to the parents. I will let you know more as it gets closer. It should be really fun for them!

Apples

Next week we will be learning about apples and doing a lot of different apple activities. We will be doing apple tasting, eating applesauce, making applejack necklaces, painting with apples, etc. It would be great if you could donate apples. We will be doing all of this on Thursday. If you would like to come in that day and help out, that would be great too. It will be from about 10:00 to 11:00. Let me know.

Hope everyone had a nice Labor Day weekend. We watched President Obama speak today about the importance of staying in school and that you need to work hard to become what you want to become. Things in life are not always going to come easy so we need to try our best to make good things happen. We had a discussion later about the speech. I was impressed with what they had said. Ask them what they learned from the speech. Also, we got the SUU shirts today. I will keep them here until they are paid for. Once you have sent $2.50, I will send the shirts home for them to keep and wear EVERY Tuesday. Thanks for a great day!

Take Home Library

Take home library books will hopefully be starting tomorrow. I have tested all of the students and placed them in a reading group. The book that will be sent home everyday will be on their level. Read it with them and return it back to school the NEXT DAY! If the books are too hard or too easy, let me know and I will adjust it. Thanks!

Welcome Back

Hope you all had a good weekend! I have started testing on their ABC letters and sounds as well as the 25 sight words. I will also be doing DRA (reading) tests. Tonight is the first night of homework. There is one paper in their folder called "Home Links." Use a book from home to complete the worksheet. Send it back, signed by a parent. Good luck! I hope to see all of you at "Back To School Night" tomorrow at 6:30

I am glad to have met some of you this morning and look forward to back to school night. If you have any questions about the notes that were sent home you can ask at back to school night.
